Commission Process
Interested in a portrait or custom work of art?
Here’s how to get started:
Contract
If you hire me to create a special work of art, I will write up a contract relaying all the project details discussed. You will sign and return this document to me, along with 50% of the commission price.
Reference Photo
Solidify the reference source. Good photos are necessary as references, especially for commissioned portraits. The right photograph will have good lighting and a high-resolution. If your subject is in bright daylight or full shade, there will not be enough detail or color contrast to reflect a good likeness.
Design Stage
At this point, having selected our reference, paper type, and colors, I will sketch out your project. Once the drawing is complete, I will follow up for approval before painting begins. Please do not hesitate to critique and help me better understand what you have in mind. The design stage helps to ensure you receive the art you really want.
Painting
Once you approve the final draft, I will begin painting. You have hired me based on my current body of work, and while I paint in a realistic style, hyper photo-realism is not my goal. Expect me to make artistic decisions in your commission. Once the painting is complete, I will not make alterations.
Payment & Shipping
Your commissioned art is ready! The remaining 50% of the total price is due, plus any shipping costs. The contract gives you the right to refuse the final painting. In the end, if you change your mind and do not wish to buy the piece, I will keep the artwork and the 50% down. This has never been an experience of mine, but I try to imagine all scenarios.
*From first discussion to finished art, this process can take 1-3 months, depending on my work load.
